…and let her crooning sink into your soul…

I write songs, sing them, and play the guitar (and sometimes the kazoo, or I just whistle or hum or something).

Amelie Julac is my alter ego.  You could call her a singer-songwriter, but she prefers the terms troubadour or chanteuse.  (She is much more suave and sophisticated than me.)

Her history is a little shadowy, but here’s what her biographers have pieced together from old newspapers, official documents, and love letters:

Amelie Julac was born in Chicago in 1910.  In her dreams she saw the open sea and a place across it that called to her, so when she was 17 she escaped her humdrum life and hitched a steamer to Paris.  With just a carpetbag and a half-broken guitar, she sang of heartache and of the wild gypsy life she’d always known was in her bones; she sang strange stories about strange animals; yes, on those cobbled streets, she sang and whistled and wailed to whoever would listen to her song.

You can listen to podcasts of past radio performances by Amelie on the pop oracle, Radio8Ball!
